THE RËVIEW: LITTLE ITALY'S PIES AND PINTS

It's always super exciting to discover new restaurants in the area and my inpromtu visit to the recently opened Little Italy's Pies and Pints in Five Points South was highly anticipated! Owned and operated by a father-daughter team with previous stakes in the Helena Little Italy's Pizza location, this pizza spot is among great company in a city that seems to be obsessed with handcrafted pies.

MOZZARELLA STICKS

SERVICE/AMBIANCE: With a nice sized bar stocked with happy hour specials and local brews, Little Italy's decor was simple and understated.  Seating options include a few booths and tables and I have to mention the meticulous restroom! We were greeted quickly and chose a booth for four. Our server informed us of the happy hour specials, two dollars off all appetizers (wings not included), and we ordered a couple of baskets of fries at ninety nine cents per order. Our server was fairly knowledgable of the menu and gracious enough to accommodate our special requests!

CALZONE
MENU: You'll find your traditional pizza spot favorites, pasta, calzones and salads on the Little Italy's menu.  What you may not be expecting though is the generous portion sizes. I ordered the Mozzarella Sticks as an appetizer and was definitely surprised to see a full sized pie arrive at the table. I can't say enough about the dough! It wasn't soggy or overly cooked. With several options we opted for the  BBQ chicken, spinach and italian sausage calzone. Large enough for seconds the custom calzone was generously filled and showcased the house dough. I was a tad disappointed that the wings didn't make the happy hour special. Deep fried and tossed in a buffalo sauce the wings were your normal bar fare.

WINGS

VERDICT:  Little Italy's Pies and Pints may not have all of the bells and whistles prevalent in the cities gourmet pie restaurant surge; however, with awesome happy hour specials, generous portions and a winning dough recipe, Little Italy's is sure to become a pie favorite. I'd love to see some creativity in the menu options and I can't wait to go back and try out some of the pasta dishes and lunch specials! If you're looking for a  good traditional pizza I'd suggest Little Italy's.
