THE SERVICE & AMBIANCE:
A super nice hostess greeted us at the door and informed us of our seating options and the wait time. The restaurant is almost always bubbling over with patrons so expect a short wait for table space or enjoy a seat at the bar.
The large hand painted mural and the wood work charm of the structure is a breath of fresh restaurant decor air! The lighting is low and the ambiance perfect for date night or a meet up with friends!Long tables shared by small parties of patrons or booth seating is available.
THE MENU: With a menu full of the seemingly staple Mexican dishes of tacos and quesadillas, expect more than the expected from the culinary cuisines that come out of the El Barrio kitchen!
I've already raved over the Fundido but I have also had a chance to partake in the Ribs... yep that's right Ribs at a Mexican restaurant! The El Barrio crew offers up daily specials and Friday was currently Chipotle Rib night and I must say they were beyond delicious. The serving was plentiful and the picture is actually of half a plate because I split the dish with my dinner date! I've also tried the Torta Ahogada, a slow roasted BBQ pork sandwich accompanied by jicama slaw! Not better than the ribs but still very tasty!
VERDICT: Fresh takes on traditional foods in a uber cool environment! El Barrio is definitely a great addition to the downtown restaurant roster. Good service and good food!
